Is there any Ringsport in the Maritimes?
« on: March 23, 2010, 07:02:23 PM »
Was born and raised in the Maritimes right now we live in Ottawa and we are looking to return once my lovely wife retires in 2012.  We are thinking somewhere fairly close to St John, maybe Grand Bay, Quispamsis or Rothesay.

Right now I am a member of GSSCC but don't train in Schutzhund.  I train and compete in French Ringsport in the Canadian Ringsport Association with my Female Malinois and am hoping to continue with Ringsport with her and the male pup I held back from her recent breeding when we relocate back to NB.

Any ways nice to see a strong in members protection dog club in the area with Fundy Schutzhund.

Here is a few pictures of my female competing in French Ring this past season.  As well as the new pup.

Hope to see you all this summer and possibly train when we go visit family in the bay of fundy area.

In Chicago w Decoy Waleed Malouf, Steady Guard exercise

Hey Geoff,

Great Pics !!! Your pup is very nice looking. How old is he ? (I think a "he" by looking at the pic :) )

I personally am not sure about Ringsport in the area, but we have members who will know this for sure, and I'm sure will post a note here about what they know.

Make sure to look us up when you're in town, and drop by the field. Your always welcome.

Cheers,
David

EDIT - Ok, re-read the post, it is a "He" :)

Thanks for the reply David.  Yes 'he' is 8 weeks actually tomorrow.  All the rest of the litter went out this past weekend.  4 are going into SAR homes, 3 including mine for Ringsport with one to a non biting sport home.

We are probably going down the first 2 weeks in August.   Hopefully the field will be open for visitors then.

Hey Geoff in answer to your question unforunately there is no ring sport clubs or events here in NB. There was a fella in Maine doing it but I think he had to go to NH or Mass. to complete. Quebec may have a club but I have never heard of one.

Hi Geoff,

None in NB that I know of. There is a guy (Ted Efthymiadias) who has mals and does ringsport to some extent. There is no official ringsport club. I f you are on FAcebook, you can join "Nova Scotian Ringsport". Can't wait to have some more mals in he area! I would love to do ring with my next mal...M

Maybe if we have enough people interested,we can hold some seminars, etc. There is also a girl in NS that does ring (Angela Fleming).

Thanks Kip the person from Maine is Scott Williams?   I met him at a competition in CT if that is him.  I was a member of the CRA club CRDM in Montreal for 2 seasons.  But the 6 hour round trips to train every weekend were very hard on my family.  So I've concentrated on building a cross sport club here in Ottawa. Our members mostly do Schutzhund and Ringsport but we cross train in other stuff as well, such as sheep herding, competitive OB and in the winter some of us sled.

Oh thanks Glenda .. Yes I have trained at Seminars with both Ted and Angela in Montreal at different times.   I try to help them as much as I can from here.

Your Waxel Ot Vitosha his father Django is my Sasha's grandfather I thought the pedigree looked familiar.  :) Even the bottom half of Waxel's pedigree has a lot of similarities with Elgos etc.  So I know what you are talking about when you say 'prey' drive!  :P

Funny you were mentioning about his dumb bell retrieves interesting how close our dogs are but yet they are still different.  I've got my Sasha doing service dog stuff she will retrieve pretty well anything.  She retrieves scissors, knives, paper, the TV remote, reading glasses.  She is a fun dog.

I'll be heading down your way last week of July for 2-3 weeks I hope to stop by Fundy's field and show interested people some exercises and explain what French Ringsport is about.  After all it is just another fun thing to train with our dogs.   That's what is all about any ways the 'fun' Ok ok the glory of 1st place and trophies too!   ;)

Scott Williams lives in Northeastern Massachusetts. I was down there last weekend and watched a couple of his "nosework" classes. :)

Our members compete at National and World levels so maybe we can offer what schutzhund is about.
Geoff, I don't recognize your name.
Training is every Wednesday and Sunday and after club training is done members can do what they want.

I'm sure you wouldn't recognize my name.  I've only been in the protection sports world for 3 years and only dabbled in Schutzhund all my energy is now devoted to Ringsport.  I do train already with other Schutzhunders that have been to the worlds and nationals numerous times.  One of those fellas a Rive Sud club member has crossed over now to Ringsport and has an official CRA club in Montreal and is working on titling his current 2 GSDs this year.

I do hope to be able to visit your field when I visit in a few weeks.
